Givaudan Active Beauty launches PrimalHyal UltraReverse: Tackling ageing at its source for skin longevity

Published: 2-Apr-2025

Givaudan Active Beauty is delighted to unveil PrimalHyal UltraReverse – the smallest and most sustainable hyaluronic acid ever developed

This active ingredient has the unique ability to penetrate skin cells and act at the DNA level, effectively addressing most of the primary hallmarks of ageing. By tackling ageing at its root, PrimalHyal™ UltraReverse is set to redefine the ‘well-ageing’ experience.

PrimalHyal™ UltraReverse, the intracellular hyaluronic acid, targets four of the five primary hallmarks of ageing:

  • Epigenetic control - Restoring DNA methylation processes and enhancing Sirtuins expression and activity, limiting cryptic transcription.
  • Genomic instability - Amplifying DNA repair mechanisms for a healthier skin.
  • Telomeres attrition - Reactivating telomerase expression and activity, protecting the chromosomes integrity.
  • Loss of proteostasis - Boosting the proteasome activity to ensure optimal cellular function.

By targeting these biological pathways, PrimalHyal™ UltraReverse protects the skin not only from chronological ageing, but also from environmental stressors known as the exposome. It increases Sirtuin 1 by +136% and improves Collagen 1 production by +48%, helping to restore skin's youthfulness. The result? Visibly younger, healthier skin, with an apparent age reduced by up to six years. It also corrects key signs of ageing, including wrinkles and sleep lines while offering improved skin firmness, as demonstrated on a diverse and international panel of volunteers.

Romain Reynaud, Research & Development Director comments: "Building on the expertise of PrimalHyal™ 50 Life, strain engineering experts at Alderys have designed PrimalHyal™ UltraReverse, an ultra-low molecular weight hyaluronic acid, lower than 3 kDa, that unlocks new biological benefits. Produced by precision fermentation, its environmental impact is drastically reduced - setting a new benchmark for sustainable, high-performance skincare."

Mathias Fleury, Head of Category - Active ingredients, comments: “Longevity has become a key trend in the beauty industry, driven by growing consumer interest in prevention and a holistic approach to skin health. In fact, 84% of people agree that they should embrace their age rather than trying to hide it, underlining the move towards a more authentic perspective on ageing1. Givaudan Active Beauty emphasises that true skincare is not just about appearance, but about longevity, prevention and well-being, by offering solutions that preserve the skin's health capital.
