The average level of sunscreen protection bought in France is SPF 33, according to a new survey by online pharmacy New Pharma.

This is the figure balanced out across the nation, although inhabitants in the south, perhaps surprisingly, buy lower SPF products. The words ‘bronzer’ and ‘bronzing’ topped the list of search terms, said New Pharma, starting in April and May 2014, and peaking in June and July. But in January there was also a gradual increase in searches for ’sun protection’, ‘sun cream’ and ‘sunburn’, which also peaked in June and July. It also appears that the French are looking to build a tan from April onwards, as the words ‘solarium’ and ‘sunbed’ also begin to appear in that month.
