According to the Organic Monitor’s Strategic Insights report, many natural and organic C&T companies are implementing fairtrade sourcing policies and it predicts that the adoption rate of fairtrade cosmetics and ingredients will rise as natural and organic cosmetic products become more mainstream.
This mainstreaming, which involves products crossing over from specialist to mainstream retail channels, is encouraging fairtrade practices, with pioneers like the Body Shop and Weleda investing in projects to guarantee the supply of organic ingredients and to encourage sustainability.
With a growing number of natural and organic C&T companies adopting fairtrade practices, Organic Monitor predicts some convergence between standards. A number of organic certification agencies are already integrating fairtrade practices into their standards and the market share of fairtrade cosmetics is expected to rise as this happens.
