Drunk Elephant has initiated a voluntary product recall on three of its products distributed in the US.
The skin care brand has asked consumers to return certain batches of the No. 9 Jelly Cleanser, Protini Polypeptide Cream and Lala Retro Whipped Cream.
This also includes sample packets of Lala found inside cartons of the brand’s O-Bloos Rosi Drops.
Drunk Elephant added that the O-Bloos Rosi Drops are safe for use, and the affected product’s lot numbers can be found on Drunk Elephant’s website.
“Due to an isolated ingredient mix-up between preservatives and surfactants during production, the formulation of certain lots of these products were compromised,” Drunk Elephant said in an Instagram post.
“The quality of our products and your satisfaction are everything to us, and we are sorry for any inconvenience this may cause.”
Affected lots of the No. 9 Jelly Cleanser contain an additional preservative ingredient Microkill COS, which is not listed on the product ingredient list.
“This ingredient is commonly used in cosmetics but may cause a temporary adverse skin reaction in those with a specific sensitivity to this ingredient,” according to Drunk Elephant.
Batches of the Lala Retro Whipped Cream, meanwhile, do not contain preservatives, which Drunk Elephant said may allow for microbial growth.
“Affected lots were found to contain yeast, some of which was found to be Candida parapsilosis,” Drunk Elephant added.
“Use of the contaminated product could result in an increased risk of infection. Candida parapsilosis is a yeast that lives on the human body and skin without harm.
“It is an opportunistic pathogen, meaning when it is present, there are rare instances where skin infections may occur.”
Both the Lala Retro Whipped Cream and Protini Polypeptide Cream also contain surfactant Mirataine CBS, which was not listed in the ingredient list
