Founded by Cornell McBride Sr, today McBride Labs. is managed by President, Cornell McBride Jr, who pursues his father’s vision to maintain a programme that combines the direct distribution to Salons of premium, quality hair care systems for their clients. This is supported by the Sales, Marketing and Education needed, and this premise has inspired their portfolio to now include the Design Essentials® Almond and Avocado and Coconut and Monoi Collections for Natural Hair; STS Express Strengthening and Smoothing System; HydraStrength® Relaxer System; Agave and Lavender Blow Dry System; Wave by Design® Permanent Wave System; Scalp Care Oils and Treatments System; and most recent the Chebe Hair Growth and Length Retention System. For the Salon backbar, an effective selection of Shampoos, Conditioners and Treatments, as well as Styling and Finishing Products, also complete the range’s offerings.

Design Essentials® products infuse hair with a natural balance of oils, plant extracts, vitamins and protein that promote the health of the hair and manageability. Today they are sold through a network of Distributors in the USA, Caribbean, South America, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. Awards include ‘Best Natural Hair Care Range’, ‘Best Hair Relaxer’, ‘Best Afro Hair Oil’, ‘Best Afro Hair Masque’, and ‘Best Moisturizer’, won with individual items within their portfolio.  The range is also the product of choice for a number of Hair and Make Up artists working in Film, Television and Theatre, and also by Stylists working in Fashion.

Design Essentials® also offer Tutors & Educators relevant products for course deliveries, as they relate to the new National Occupational Standards in Hairdressing, which now includes Hair Classifications 3 & 4.  Their Award-Winning International Educator Team, including qualified Lecturers, Assessors and IQA’s, deliver Habia Endorsed CPD Courses covering manipulation, styling, cutting, restructuring and maintenance of wavy, curly and coily hair.  This also includes the science, techniques and usage of hair products suited to these hair types, and they aim to take the fear out of Stylists adopting the care of and embodying all types and textures of hair, as everyone deserves to feel beautiful.

McBride’s International Marketing Manager, Sharon Thompson, and International Sales Manager, Joshua Lomotey, both with decades of industry experience throughout the region, are happy to share information and answer queries regarding the stocking of Design Essentials® at Salon or Retail level. Ongoing support is given through Marketing and Promotional initiatives and the planning of Educational delivery by their Award Winning Educational Team, led by International Lead Educator, Patricia Davis.

McBride Research Labs Inc., takes their Social Responsibility seriously, and as part of their goal to impact lives and affect the building of stronger communities, they invest resources to support various initiatives and charitable causes to improve the lives of affected groups. They dedicate campaigns to impact awareness and fundraising efforts for Breast Cancer Charities, award scholarships to Spellman University, empowering through education in order to elevate lives, families and communities; and they support the causes and impact awareness through the support of local UK Charities, like the African Caribbean Leukaemia Trust (ACLT), and the ovarian cancer charity Ovacome.

Additionally they take their Sustainability footprint seriously, and as such take pride in ensuring their products are Cruelty Free and not tested on animals; their raw materials and components are ethically sourced; they invest in ensuring their packaging waste is recovered & recycled by a responsible organisation; and they have undergone an Ethical and Social Responsibility Audit relating to their employees, facilities, customers and the environment.

An initiative very close to their heart, is the opportunity for them to actively contribute to one of the source communities of their raw materials, through local projects aimed at minimising the economic divide. This is administered in particular with their new Chebe Hair Growth & Length Retention Collection, and a percentage of each item sold from this range, goes directly back to the local Basara Tribe of Women, that our ‘Chebe Powder’ ingredient is sourced from in Chad, Africa. Local projects have already been supported including food drops, fixtures for local schools and currently the building of a well is being planned. Other ingredients in the range include Shea Butter, Sunflower Oil, up to 20 Essentials Oils and other African Extracts with contain key antioxidants that help to nourish the hair and scalp encouraging hair growth.
