Croda softens the blow of hair care
Shampoos, through their cleansing action, can strip the hair of dirt as well as essential lipids, leaving hair feeling coarse, dry and rough. Croda Inc has extended its softening technology beyond conditioner formulations and has developed a shampoo compatible quat, Crodazosoft SCQ, that allows formulators to create shampoos that are aesthetically pleasing and deliver hair that is soft and sensuous to the touch.

To measure the ability of the ingredient to impart softness to hair fibres, Croda Inc used a Dynamic Mechanical Analyzer to test virgin and bleached brown hair fibres that were treated and measured at 30, 45 and 60% relative humidity. Hair softness is related to its modulus (ie stiffness) and can be quantified by measuring the force required to bend a bundle of hair fibres. The shampoo treatments containing Crodazosoft SCQ resulted in up to an 8% increase in softness for the bundles tested.
