Credo Beauty and True Botanicals join programme focused on developing kelp-derived beauty formulas

Nine beauty brands, including Pamela Anderson’s Sonsie and Krave Beauty, are joining Kelp CoLab – a new initiative aimed at launching formulas and products derived from seaweed

Credo Beauty, the US ‘clean’ beauty retailer, and Korean skin care brand, Krave Beauty, are among nine beauty brands that have been chosen for a new programme focused on developing kelp-derived beauty formulas.

Sonsie, the skin care brand co-founded by actress Pamela Anderson, and sustainable beauty line True Botanicals have also been named in part of Kelp CoLab – a new initiative from GreenWave, a global network of regenerative ocean farmers, and ingredient supplier Macro Oceans.

The inaugural cohort also includes indie cosmetics brand Elate and skin care line Sea-el.

The Barb Shop, an LGBTQ+ owned and operated brand designed for those with short hair, skin health-focused refillable soap company Soapply and “reef-safe” sun care range Project Reef complete the line-up.

The R&D programme will support formulation work with kelp-derived ingredients sourced from regenerative ocean farms.

“The overall goal of Kelp CoLab is to support brands in harnessing the potential of functional ingredients derived from regeneratively farmed kelp,” Grace Collery, Senior Market Development Program Manager at GreenWave, told Cosmetics Business.
