Coty has announced it could close its manufacturing plant in Seaton Delaval, Northumberland, by the end of next year.
The beauty giant, which acquired 41 of P&G’s beauty brands last year, has carried out a detailed study of its global manufacturing capacities following the takeover.
As a result, Coty says it plans to consolidate its fragrance operations into fewer core centres; it announced that its site in Ashford in Kent would be expanded into one of these hubs.
The Seaton Delaval plant is a fragrance operation and, if proposals go ahead, will face closure.
Approximately 400 jobs will be affected if the site shuts down. Kay Plumley, Site Leader at Seaton Delaval, said: “I am committed to fully supporting all our colleagues in Seaton through the coming months.
“Our priority is to work closely with them and their families throughout the consultation and to ensure that everyone is treated fairly and with respect.”
