Companies are prepared for REACH registration

With the end of the REACH pre-registration phase on 1 December 2008, more chemical companies have announced that they are ready for the registration phase. Dow Chemical Company has established the Dow Only Representative Trustee (ORT) in preparation for REACH registration. According to the company, the Dow ORT will help leverage REACH registrations and reduce costs along its supply chain.


With the end of the REACH pre-registration phase on 1 December 2008, more chemical companies have announced that they are ready for the registration phase. Dow Chemical Company has established the Dow Only Representative Trustee (ORT) in preparation for REACH registration. According to the company, the Dow ORT will help leverage REACH registrations and reduce costs along its supply chain.

Dow says that, under some specific conditions, the trustee can offer to use the Dow registrations to cover under REACH indirect imports of Dow substances by EU importers. PricewaterhouseCoopers Advisory NV in the Netherlands will operate as the trustee, to ensure customers’ information remains confidential.

Dow believes the Dow ORT will enable its selected direct non-EU customers and indirect EU customers to avoid excessive REACH compliance costs.
