French model Clementine Desseaux has been cast in a new social ad campaign for Christian Louboutin’s range of lipsticks. Desseaux, who is between a size 12 and 14, is the first plus-size model to star in one of the label's adverts.
Desseaux told The Daily Mail: “The beauty norm is changing and differences that used to be weaknesses are now turning into strengths.”
The advert featuring Desseaux wearing a red Christian Louboutin lipstick appeared on the brand’s Facebook page last week. The brand captioned the clip: “A natural beauty in #LouboutinCharme.”
The model left Paris for New York three years ago after struggling to find work because of her size. She now believes that the industry is starting to change. Desseaux added: “You would never have dreamed of seeing a plus-sized model used in a campaign for a French brand like Louboutin a few years ago. The tide is turning and it is about time. Louboutin now needs to be recognised for their giant leap and women need to get behind such a big statement and join the body positive movement.”
Louboutin’s new advert appears to be part of a wider trend in the fashion and beauty industry. Earlier this year plus-sized singer Beth Ditto featured in the Marc Jacobs catwalk show at New York Fashion Week.
Desseaux is also due to appear in an upcoming documentary by Jessica Lewis, Straight/Curve. The film will follow plus size models during their working lives and will take a look at the plus size industry.
