Artisanal New York fragrance house Bond No. 9 has been commissioned by luxury US retailer Saks Fifth Avenue to create its first signature his and hers fragrances. The move marks the first time a speciality store has selected a perfumery to design fragrances.

The two scents are dedicated to Sak's New York flagship store and, inspired by Bond No.9's New York neighbourhood scents, aim to treat Saks itself as a ultra-sophisticated neighbourhood. Terron Schaefer, group senior vice president, creative and marketing, commented: “As a historical retailer located on Fifth Avenue, Saks Fifth Avenue is thrilled that Bond No.9's Saks for Him and Saks For Her will become a part of our heritage as the first scent ever created for the company.”

Saks Fifth Avenue for Her features a white bouquet, opening with jasmine and tuberose, leading to a classic gardenia heart and a vetiver and vanilla base. The men's scent contains an initial dash of Sicilian bergamot, with cardamom, chilli and black pepper at the top, incense at the heart, while amber and guiaic wood from South America provide a warming base.

The flacons are slender in design, and display the retailer's vibrant new black and white logo. The women's scent will be available from September, and the men's from October at Saks Fifth Avenue outlets across the US and at Bond No. 9's four New York stores, priced $185 (3.4oz) and $125 (1.7oz).
