Toxins, Detoxification and BioDTox.
People are all exposed to multitude of chemicals, heavy metals and environmental pollutants. Also harmful molecules may be produced in the body mainly through the cellular energy production. Our cells are in constant danger and need an efficient defense or detoxification system. There are two steps of the cellular detoxification system (Figure1). Two enzyme systems are involved in the degradation of toxic compounds: the phase I enzymes and the phase II/anti-oxidant enzymes.
BioDTox is a cosmetic ingredient developed as a skin detoxifier from Citrus flavonoids, Brassica sulforaphane and Aloe polyphenols. Bioflavonoids are known as Vitamin P. Since they cannot be manufactured by the body, they must be supplied through the diet or topical use. Bioflavonoids are famous of its efficacy, especially strong anti-oxidative activity. Also, it is known to have anti-allergy and anti-inflammatory effects. Broccoli is an abundant source of sulforaphane, a well known activator of phase II detoxification enzyme. Aloe is one of the native plants growing in Jeju island, Korea. Its polyphenol compounds are present naturally and can benefit the human skin in many ways. BioDTox can stimulate strongly phase II/anti-oxidant enzymes in keratinocyte cells. The combined activity helps to protect skin cells against toxins and reactive, dangerous molecules.
Clinical Study of pore cleanliness, sebum and scaling effect of BioDTox.
A clinical study has been performed to evaluate improvement of skin pore cleanliness, sebum, scaling for BioDTox on human skin (by DermaPro Skin Research Center, Korea). Thirty healthy subjects (average age: 30.0±8.8yr) participated in this study. Skin cleansing effect was evaluated by pore cleanliness, area and number of sebum spot, skin scale measurement at before treatment and after 20 minutes treatment. The results showed that BioDTox is considered that it has improvement of pore cleanliness (Figure 2), sebum spot (Figure 3), scaling (Figure 4) on human skin.
Figure 2. Clinical study of BioDTox on pore cleanliness.
Compared to before treatment, pore cleanliness was significantly improved at 20 minutes after treatment. Improvement of pore cleanliness was around 25% better than control.
Figure 3. Clinical study of BioDTox on sebum spot.
Compared to before treatment, sebum spot number was significantly reduced by around 15%. Area containing sebum spot also was improved by around 12%.
Figure 4. Clinical Study of BioDTox on skin scaling.
Compared to before treatment, skin scale was significantly decreased by around 35%.
