Beiersdorf not satisfied with 2010 performance
Africa-Asia-Australia sales only slightly up on 2009
The large consumer division of the German group Beiersdorf which accounts for the bulk of the group's sales, especially Nivea skin care, has posted growth of only 1.6% for 2010 to €5.3bn with variable performance in different national markets. Business was strongly positive in the UK and Russia but varied elsewhere in Europe. Particularly strong growth was reported from North and Latin America but in the Africa-Asia-Australia region sales were only slightly above 2009 levels. Consumer division pre-tax profits rose from €588m to some €600m. Total group sales rose 7.7% to €6.1bn.
The company has said that it is not satisfied with the consumer division’s performance despite good successes in some markets. Decisions have already been taken to increase investment in the division and to launch a major restructuring of the operation.
