Exclusive: Beauty delivered £28.3 billion to the UK economy in 2025 despite economic headwinds

The UK’s beauty and personal care sector's growth rate slowed slightly in 2025, but the sector remained resilient, delivering a valuable GDP contribution to the UK economy despite rising costs, tariffs and more, says the British Beauty Council

The beauty industry made a total gross domestic product (GDP) contribution of £28.3bn to the UK economy in 2025, remaining resilient despite economic headwinds, according to the British Beauty Council’s updated Value of Beauty report.

This figure for 2025 represents a 0.2% cash-terms decrease on last year’s revised year-on-year figure of £28.4bn, as the beauty sector dealt with pressure from rising business rates, increased wage costs, tariffs and more.

This contraction was also driven by a 0.7% decrease in spend on personal care products and services by UK households, as well as weak demand for UK personal care products abroad as exports fell in real terms.
