Asbestos has been found in make-up by popular tween personality JoJo Siwa, according to US watchdog Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
Siwa rose to fame on reality television series Dance Moms before being signed by Nickelodeon and launching YouTube channel JoJo Siwa Vlogs.
The 16-year-old has a social media following of 30 million, primarily made up of teenage fans.
American retailer Claire’s partnered with the LA-based dancer to launch the JoJo Siwa Makeup Set, which included eyeshadow, two lip glosses and nail polish, but the FDA found that the licensed product tested positive for asbestos.
Consumers have been warned to stop using the set and the products have been recalled, along with the Claire’s Beauty Plus Global Contour Effects Palette 2.
It is the second time in four months that the regulator has confirmed the presence of the life-threatening fibre in Claire’s products.
In March, the FDA pulled three make-up products from shelves after revealing traces of asbestos.
“We understand how concerning this finding is for any consumer and parents whose children may have used one of these products,” the watchdog said at the time.
In April 2018, two Claire’s make-up kits were banned from sale in the UK, due to concerns that they may contain asbestos.
Siwa has not released a statement regarding the findings.
