Beauty goods makers in the US are one step closer to accessing a new system for the registration and listing of cosmetic product facilities and products.
This week, the country’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) unveiled the draft guidance for a new programme under MoCRA, the Modernization of Cosmetic Regulations Act of 2022.
The draft confirmed FDA plans for the system to go live in approximately two months’ time.
The much-anticipated launch follows the suspension of the old Voluntary Cosmetic Registration Program (VCRP) earlier this year.
MoCRA was signed into law as part of the Food and Drug Omnibus Reform Act of 2022 (FDORA) on 29 December 2022.
“MoCRA requires that every person that owns or operates a facility that ‘engages in the manufacturing or processing of a cosmetic product for distribution in the United States’ register that facility with FDA, update content within 60 days of any changes, and renew their registration every two years,” explains Kelly Bonner, an associate at Philadelphia law firm Duane Morris LLP.
