Festive sales figures up 3.9% on previous year

AS Watson’s Luxury Division has announced that it experienced strong sales in the final two weeks before Christmas, resulting in a 3.9% like for like sales growth on 2009’s figures. This was despite experiencing a spate of bad weather just before Christmas, with many shoppers housebound due to the heavy snowfall.

The AS Watson Luxury Division in Europe is made up of 1,600 stores in 15 individual markets and includes The Perfume Shop, Marionnaud and ICI Paris XL.

Malina Ngai, spokesperson for AS Watson, commented: “We were pleased with our performance this Christmas, despite the bad weather across Europe.

“Apart from the luxury brands we were able to sell a lot of our own brand products too – and by giving customers a choice to mix and match items to make up their own gift sets in attractive packaging, we provided them with appealing value alternatives.

“Meanwhile, in terms of fragrance we saw men’s fragrances creeping into the best seller list for the first time, particularly the continuing stellar performance of Paco Rabanne’s 1 Million.”

And on the charity front, AS Watson was also pleased to announce that it sold over 78,000 of its Christmas charity bears and keyrings, which helped to raise over €260,000 to be donated to various charitable organisations across Europe.
