The retinoid cosmetics boom is back as consumers demand more powerful bioactive skin care ingredients. Retinoids are used in body care products as well as facial care, offering a wide range of options to address a variety of skin types and concerns, from premature aging signs and skin trouble care to skin tone and texture improvement. As demand and interest in retinol cosmetics increase among young consumers under 35 years of age and in emerging markets such as India and China, formulations that strengthen irritation relief, soothing, and moisturising ingredients to effectively deliver powerful ingredients without side effects are attracting attention.
Reflecting this market trend, ACTIVON is launching A-SoothingUp RB, an anti-irritation ingredient that soothes irritation caused by retinol, as a new product in 2025.

Upcycling rambutan peel, a byproduct of the food industry, and manufacturing it through an eco-friendly and effective extraction method using the patented NADES process, A-SoothingUp RB minimises skin irritation caused by retinol, improves skin redness and flushing caused by various factors, and provides cooling and soothing effects to sensitive scalp and skin.

Sustainable sourcing
ACTIVON conducts sustainable & traceable sourcing from the cultivation and harvesting of rambutan to the separation of its peel. A-SootihngUp RB is an upcycled material made by drying rambutan peels that are discarded after being used for canned products.
NADES extraction
ACTIVON has adopted the patented eco-friendly extraction method, the NADES system, to extract active ingredients in an environmentally friendly and efficient way.
- NADES dissolve target compounds from rambutan peel by breaking down cell walls and enhancing the solubility of bioactive compounds.
- NADES (Natural Deep Eutectic Solvents) are made by combining two natural components, which interact through hydrogen bonding.
- ACTIVON optimised the components and ratios of NADES to effectively extract active compounds from rambutan peel.
A-SoothingUp RB, a soothing agent for retinol, will be showcased at the Innovation Zone and the ACTIVON booth (2B60) at in-cosmetics global in Amsterdam from April 8 to 10. A technical seminar titled ‘Anti-irritant ingredient made from upcycled materials through eco-friendly process’ by Kim Myo-deok, a senior researcher at ACTIVON Labs, will also be held on April 9.
