Hydrating, vitamin packed and bright pink enough to pop on Instagram, it’s no wonder that watermelon is having a moment in the spotlight.
Now found in formats ranging from shower gel to perfume and tanning oils, the buzz around watermelon extract is said to stem from K-beauty. In particular, South Korean skin care brand Glow Recipe and its cult Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask that aims to “flood the skin” with vitamins, antioxidants and amino acids thanks to the product’s star ingredient.
Now a best-seller in Sephora, it made US$30m in retail sales in 2018, and more brands are wanting a slice of Glow Recipe’s success.
