Krissi Vandenberg, Executive Director at Vegan Action, explains why the label “vegan” isn’t just important for food products.

What does the Vegan Certification mean?

The Certified Vegan logo indicates that a product is both free of any animal products and has not been tested on animals. All beauty products are eligible, including hair products, body products, make-up, make-up sponges and brushes, lip balms and nail polish.

When we launched the programme, we wanted to do something that no one else was doing in the US at the time. We hoped it would benefit consumers and companies alike. We had a logo developed, got it trademarked and companies started using it in 2000. It has been growing exponentially ever since.
