What are the trends shaping beauty and wellness fulfilment right now?

Beauty trends can change quickly. Looksmaxxing, skin longevity, peptides, seasonal scents and colour palettes, and hybrid products such as skin tints are all influencing what consumers are looking for. But behind those trends, fulfilment is having to adapt too

As brands, retailers and distributors come together at Beauty Bulb Live London on 7th October, there will be plenty of discussion around what’s next for beauty and wellness. But alongside the products and trends attracting attention, it’s worth considering what these changes mean for the operations supporting them.

Beauty and wellness are becoming more international, product ranges are becoming more specialised and consumers expect faster delivery and more personalised experiences. For brands and retailers, this creates new demands on the operations supporting growth.

Beauty trends are becoming increasingly global

Beauty trends are travelling between markets faster than they once did. K-beauty has become firmly established in Western markets, while US beauty and wellness trends continue to spread through creators, celebrity brands and social media. J-beauty is also attracting greater attention, bringing another set of products and routines into the conversation.

Social media is accelerating this process. A product can move from being relatively niche to generating significant demand after appearing in a viral video or becoming part of a wider beauty trend.

This creates a challenge for fulfilment. Demand can be harder to forecast and can change quickly between products, markets and channels. A product that has been selling steadily can suddenly require a much higher level of stock, while a new launch may need to be distributed across several markets at once.

For brands, fulfilment needs to be able to respond to these fluctuations. Real-time visibility across stock, orders and deliveries can help identify where demand is increasing and where operational pressure is building. The ability to scale during launches, campaigns and periods of viral demand will become increasingly important as international beauty trends continue to emerge.

Picking accuracy is becoming more important

The growing number of targeted beauty and wellness products is also increasing the complexity of fulfilment.

Orders can contain small, high-value products, while ranges may include multiple formulations or products with similar packaging. Skincare containing active ingredients can also have batch and expiry requirements, while devices and other wellness products may need different handling. Getting these details right is crucial. Picking the wrong product can result in a return, additional fulfilment costs and a poor customer experience.

Technology can help improve accuracy. Warehouse management systems can use data to identify fast-moving products, improve stock positioning and support processes such as batch and expiry tracking. This is particularly relevant as beauty and wellness ranges expand into more specialised products, from peptide and targeted skincare to red light therapy and other at-home devices.

The challenge is balancing speed with accuracy. Consumers increasingly expect rapid delivery, but getting an order out quickly doesn't help if the wrong product arrives.

The experience doesn't end at checkout

Beauty is also a category where the relationship with the customer can continue after an order has been delivered.

Many products form part of a routine, meaning consumers may need guidance on how to use them, when to replenish them and which products work alongside them. This gives brands an opportunity to use fulfilment to add more value to the post-purchase experience.

Inserts, QR codes and personalised packaging can provide product guidance, routine information or recommendations for complementary products. For brands selling through social commerce, the unboxing experience can also become part of how consumers engage with the brand.

However, personalisation needs to work at scale. Fulfilment operations need to accommodate different inserts, packaging formats and promotional materials without increasing errors or slowing down orders. This is where a combination of automation and human oversight can be useful. Technology can support consistency and speed, while fulfilment teams can manage exceptions and more complex orders.

Packaging is becoming another operational consideration

Packaging is another area where beauty fulfilment is changing. Premium skincare products may use glass packaging, while wellness ranges can include sachets, supplements and electronic devices. These products need to be protected during delivery, but brands are also facing greater pressure to reduce unnecessary packaging. Extended Producer Responsibility requirements in the UK, alongside packaging regulations in Europe, are adding to that pressure.

Rightsizing can help brands balance protection with efficiency. The right packaging format can reduce excess material and void space while still protecting products during transit. This becomes more complicated when customers place mixed orders. A fulfilment centre may need to pack a glass serum alongside sachets or an electronic device, for example. Understanding how products are ordered together can help determine the most appropriate packaging formats.

For brands, this is becoming an operational question as well as a sustainability one. Efficient packaging can reduce material use while also helping fulfilment centres process orders more effectively during periods of higher demand.

Building fulfilment around changing beauty demand

Beauty and wellness are becoming more international, more specialised and more influenced by rapid changes in consumer behaviour. Brands can't predict exactly which product, trend or market will generate the next surge in demand. They can, however, make sure the operation behind the brand is prepared to respond. That means having visibility across stock and orders, maintaining picking accuracy, accommodating personalisation and reviewing packaging as products and regulations change.

As beauty trends continue to move quickly between markets and channels, fulfilment will have an increasingly important role in helping brands turn that demand into a reliable customer experience.
