Cosmetic products, including nail polish, hair relaxers and deodorants, were responsible for injuring over 64,000 children in 14 years in the US, according to the medical journal Clinical Pediatrics.
Nail polish was the most harmful product.
The study looked at the US’s National Electronic Injury Surveillance System, a database operated by the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, which details injuries that occurred to children under five who attended emergency rooms between 1999 and 2015.
