US campaigns for safer cosmetics

More than 500 companies – including Burt's Bees and The Body Shop – have signed an agreement to stop using potentially unsafe ingredients in their cosmetic and body care products. The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics was set up to persuade US companies to meet the standards to be implemented in Europe under Dir78/768/EEC, banning chemicals suspected of causing cancer. Estée Lauder, L’Oréal, Revlon and P&G have so far all refused to sign.
