Unilever India unit set to acquire beauty brand Minimalist

Brand founders say acquisition will help with global expansion

Unilever’s India unit is acquiring Indian premium beauty brand Minimalist. 

Hindustan Unilever (HUL) announced it will take a 90.5%  stake in the company for a value of 29.55bn rupees (US$342.3m), including debt.

HUL also said that within two years Minimalist would be owned wholly by them.

Rohit Jawa, CEO and Managing Director of HUL said: “We are delighted to welcome Minimalist into the HUL family. This acquisition is another key step to grow our Beauty & Wellbeing portfolio in high-growth premium demand spaces.”

Ritesh Tiwari, Executive Director, Finance and CFO, HUL added: “We are excited to partner with the Minimalist team to unlock value through synergies and together, scale the brand to greater heights by leveraging our complementary capabilities.”

Minimalist launched in 2020 and was founded by Mohit Yadav and Rahul Yadav. 

The brand says it is one of the fastest growing digital brands sitting at the intersection of beauty and science.

The brand focuses on skin care and hair care with bestsellers including its Vitamin C 10% Face Serum and Marula Oil Face Moisturiser.

On the acquisition the Yadav’s said: “We founded Minimalist to introduce a transparent Indian beauty range that is trusted and loved on a global scale. We are incredibly grateful for the overwhelming support we have received in India.

“Now, with HUL’s robust offline distribution network, we look forward to making our products even more accessible and also paving the way for our expansion into international markets”.
