Analysing natural ingredient sourcing from biodiversity

The Union for Ethical BioTrade (UEBT) is calling for participation from stakeholders in its standard revision process.

The first version of the UEBT standard was established in 2007 and there have been numerous audits have taken place. UEBT says its experiences and those of its members with this framework have illustrated that while there were no fundamental flaws, there were improvements that could be made.

In 2009 UEBT therefore entered into a first public consultation phase that resulted in a draft revised standard that which is now open for a second round of public consultation. UEBT is inviting comments from all stakeholders working on BioTrade and/or sustainable development issues.

The Ethical BioTrade standard is a tool used to analyse how a trading member sources natural ingredients derived from biodiversity. This analysis is designed to help members to develop management systems that allow them to continually improve their sourcing practices and move towards the 'Sourcing with Respect' of biodiversity-based products.
