TNT Global Manufacturing has used water transfer, or hydrography, to manufacture wood-like boxes for fragrance house Penhaligon's.
The process consists of applying a thin, decorative base of water-soluble film on a 3D object.
The printed film is placed on the surface of the water and the base begins to dissolve, thanks to an activator.
The injected plastic box is then immersed in water where the ink 'wraps' it due to the water pressure.
Once removed from the water, the box is cleaned and dried, and a gold logo is applied. A coat of varnish completes the process.
