THG's Lookfantastic bets on dermatological skin care with new platform

The expert-approved skin care retail platform will also offer advice and new possibilities for content creators

Online beauty retailer Lookfantastic has launched a new platform dedicated to the professional skin care category.

The  Dermatological Skincare hub will be live from 1 July and offer products that are "medical-grade and dermatologically tested and approved".

CeraVe, MediK8, Dermalogica, Dr Dennis Gross, Bioderma and Murad are among the THG-owned retailer's offering.

The online retailer is also offering consumers advice on medical skin care conditions, such as eczema-prone skin, acne and psoriasis.

Consumers will be able to book one-to-one 30-minute consultations with the e-commerce player's in-house pharmacist, or use the live chat function to ask a question to the team of beauty advisors.

Lookfantastic is also investing in a new affiliate programme for beauty expert influencers, such as doctors, dermatologists and "credible skinfluencers".

The influencer network will create advisory content for Lookfantastic's social media accounts.

"Consumers are becoming increasingly aware about the products they are using as part of their skin care regimen, so we want to ensure that they have access to all the information they need to make an informed product purchase which will work for them," said Lucy Gorman, CEO for THG Beauty.

Skin care brands marketed as 'medical grade' and 'backed by dermatologists' are an increasingly lucrative category as a modern interpretation of the 'French pharmacy' stamp of approval.

L’Oréal renamed its Active Cosmetics division – which includes SkinCeuticals and Vichy – to L’Oréal Dermatological Beauty in February to reflect the opportunity.

“It helps us stand more clearly for who we are: brands that accompany dermatologists, paediatricians and pharmacists in the daily support to their patients,” said Myriam Cohen-Welgryn, Worldwide President of L’Oréal Dermatological Beauty at the time.
