Japanese flavours and fragrance supplier Takasago has opened a Singapore dollar $60m flavours and fragrances plant in Singapore, to build on its position as one of the biggest Asian ingredients suppliers and help grow its fragrances business.
The facility will have responsibility as an R&D centre exploring specialised techniques to create future technologies for flavour and fragrance products. It will also house the expanded Consumer Insights and Market Research Unit, which researches the behaviour and mindsets of Asian consumers.
The company has just completed a project called 'Open Window' conducted in ten cities across six countries, the insights from which will form the basis for innovative fragrance opportunities in key Asian markets. Takasago said the Singapore facility will build on the groundwork already laid by Takasago International Singapore in providing sensory inputs into global brands like Givenchy, Yves Saint Laurent and Shiseido. It also plans to train the next generation of perfumers who will be able to deliver on the creative and technical knowledge to meet the Asian market needs.
