Fragrance and flavouring supplier Symrise has signed an agreement to acquire Manheimer Fragrances, a supplier of natural, organic and fair-trade scents for candles and air fresheners, as part of an expansion of its air care market.

This acquisition follows Symrise’s takeover of Intercontinental Fragrances, which specialises in fragrances for use in candles, earlier this month. The company has also announced plans to create a global air care centre in the US next year.

Acquiring Intercontinental Fragrances and Manheimer Fragrances both increases Symrise’s overall share of the US fragrance market and strengthens its position in the air care sector, particularly the scented candles market. It will also help Symrise lay the cornerstone for its global air care centre, which will include research, development, production and global marketing of fragrance compositions for candles and air fresheners.

“One of our declared goals is to further expand our market position in the US through both organic growth and strategic acquisitions,” commented Achim Daub, global president, scent and care. “The two recent acquisitions will significantly strengthen our position on the increasingly important air care market. This market segment will also have high priority for us on a global level. Starting in 2009, we will focus all of our air care activities in the US and make this expertise available to the international Symrise group.”
