Swallowfield has become the first UK-based cosmetics manufacturer to be awarded the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification for its green manufacturing principles.
The contract manufacturer will now be eligible to use the FSC tree tick logo on its lip and eye pencils to show the wood used has been responsibly sourced. In order to qualify for certification, Swallowfield had to provide tracking information for the timber used, from forest to end product, as well as proof that the timber was purchased from a responsibly managed source. Each step of the manufacturing process was monitored by an independent auditor, approved by the FSC.
Swallowfield is estimated to manufacture 13 million lip and eye pencils from Incense timber sourced from a specialist supplier in California each year.
“As the leading UK cosmetics manufacturer we have a responsibility to ensure that we not only obtain our materials from sustainable sources, but also that our manufacturing process is environmentally friendly,” commented Swallowfield ceo, Ian Mackinnon. “We are delighted to have received Chain of Custody certification and this reinforces our commitment to the environment.”
