Bodyfensine, the latest active from Lipotec, is a tripeptide that protects skin from external microbial invasion lowering the risk of infection.
Although human skin is host to a number of harmless microorganisms, it is frequently challenged by pathogens. Bodyfensine is said to allow the stimulation of b-defensin to expand the innate epithelial shield and avoid microbial aggression, and is particularly recommended for use in formulations to combat acne prone skin.
In vitro efficacy was determined at the transcriptional level by measuring Bodyfensine’s ability to promote the expression of hBD-2 mRNA in human keratinocytes. It induced a 10% increase in hBD-2 mRNA.
