Sephora snaps up 45% of Russia’s Ile de Beaute
French beauty products distribution group Sephora (LVMH) has acquired a 45% stake in Russian perfumery chain Ile de Beaute. LVMH said the agreement included the option for Sephora to take a majority holding. The company added that the operation would enable Sephora to become a major player within a few years in this strongly growing market. Ile de Beaute is based in Moscow and has about 100 points of sale in the country. Sales have been estimated at about $280m or €200m. It is understood that Sephora's Russian business operations will remain under the management of the Alkor franchise in a contract running to 2010.
