Sarah Chapman knows a thing or two about skin health – with more than 25 years experience treating clients under her belt and a background in cosmetic science – which is why it comes as no surprise that she is betting big on longevity science as the future of beauty.
The facialist to the stars, and founder of popular skin care brand Sarah Chapman London, has expanded her established Skinesis Clinic in London, UK, this month with the addition of a longevity-specific division.
It is headed up by two doctors seasoned in functional medicine to help demonstrate to the masses beauty as one of the fundamental pillars of longevity.
The aim is to expand Chapman’s science-led skin care approach beyond topical treatments to focus on the underlying biological factors that influence skin health and ageing, using cutting-edge science to shift the focus of beauty from symptom correction to root cause intervention.
It is a timely move by the advanced therapist as longevity science is a hot topic, with many claiming it could be a paradigm shift in empowering consumers to move from corrective to preventive care – if executed right.
Some people are still not quite sure exactly what longevity is. How does it tie into skin? What does it really mean?
“There is definitely a real shift in how we think about beauty, with longevity science being a really key part of it,” says Chapman.
“People are looking less for a reactive response to things and much more for a proactive, preventative approach.
“They are no longer waiting until something is wrong to act, but thinking about how they can actually keep everything (body, skin, etc) at its optimum.
“For me, I have always looked at the holistic part of beauty – even 20 years ago, I was recommending lifestyle and supplementation advice alongside serums and moisturisers before many others.
“This [longevity] movement is more about people empowering themselves with knowledge, and treating skin with this sort of intelligence and intention.”
