The last 18 months has been a time of turbulence in our personal and working lives. As the Covid-19 pandemic unfolded, it became clear that we would have to adapt to new ways of working for some considerable time.
Initially, there was much talk of the post-pandemic ‘new normal’, as though we would return to our old working methods, with a few small adjustments.
In the Arthur Edward 2021 Salary Survey & Industry Report, 49% of respondents said they benefit from flexible working, compared with just 22% in the previous Survey. This is a huge change in little over a year, and it’s clear to me that there’s no putting the genie back in the bottle!
At the beginning of the pandemic, ‘flexible working’ was talked about mainly in terms of location. Many of us had long wanted the freedom to work remotely, and welcomed this opportunity. The Salary Survey revealed that a whopping 84% of people who were working from home expected to continue doing so in the future, at least some of the time.
