Cash strapped American women accustomed to colouring their hair in the salon are opting for recession-time DIY home kits instead. Recent market data from Mintel has indicated that sales of Clairol’s Root Touch-up boomed 20% over the last year and that 15% of 1,000 women surveyed who normally use professional colouring services now prefer to do it themselves. This trend has sparked salons such as Fekkai and Umberto Beverly Hills to launch new take-home lines.
