Spanish company Puig walked away with the award for best new prestige male fragrance for its 1 Million scent from Paco Rabanne at the 2009 FiFi Awards held at The Dorchester Hotel last night. Estée Lauder meanwhile took the prize for best new prestige female fragrance for its Sensuous scent as well as having wins in two other categories.
But despite missing out on the top honours it was undoubtedly Procter & Gamble’s night as it walked away with wins in five categories. Coty also scooped three awards in a night which was attended by the glitterati of the fragrance industry and which saw Jean-Paul Guerlain himself honoured by The Fragrance Foundation for his “Creativity and Services to the Fragrance Industry”.
In his opening address, The Fragrance Foundation’s chairman, Peter Norman, referenced the economic climate in the UK saying that “fragrance sales have stood up well but it has been at a heady cost” but adding that the industry has shown “innovation, success and courage” in the face of adversity and cost cutting.
