Sirtuins, guarantors of cell longevity
Scientific investigations conducted to elucidate the mysteries of longevity have revealed mechanisms and markers that can limit the decline of these cellular functions. In particular, this is the case for sirtuins. Their effect on longevity depends on the availability of the coenzyme NAD+, required for the correct mitochondrial functioning and the production of energy, and of AMPK, an energy sensor that protects cellular metabolism.
