Nutriceuticals will nourish C&T industry
Nutriceuticals - products taken orally to enhance external beauty - are set to grow significantly in the next few years, according to the latest predictions from Cosmeeting. The French beauty body predicts 10-15% growth for the category, which is currently valued at €3.6bn.
Beauty giants L'Oréal and Procter & Gamble have already taken steps to enter this sector, with P&G joining forces with Pharmavite while L'Oréal and Nestlé have partnered on joint venture Innéov.
“Oral cosmetics will play a significant role in the development of the beauty cosmetics market worldwide,” said beauty expert, Gwyn Davies speaking at a recent workshop. “In the next few years beauty pills will change the lifestyle of women everywhere. The emerging trend of beauty inside and out is becoming increasingly popular, with consumers changing their daily beauty regimes.”
The next generation of nutriceuticals, says Davies, will be based on a person's genetic make-up - or nutrigenomics.
