Larger facility will create higher yield of company's functionalised calcium carbonate products while respecting the environment

Swiss calcium carbonate materials specialist Omya has completed expansion work on its production facility in Orgon, France.

The new, larger facility will create a substantially higher capacity for the company’s functionalised calcium carbonate product platform. It also includes a new packaging line and an on-site warehouse.

In the plant, ultrapure calcium carbonate is functionalised by a patented, highly advanced process. The resulting mineral ingredients include those for the personal care industry, Omyaskin and Omyadent, which are COSMOS and NaTrue approved ingredients for skin care and oral care, respectively.

To successfully operate the plant while preserving the surrounding Alpilles natural park environment Omya employed the help of local ecologists and initiated an Orgon plant recultivation plan.

In addition, the impacts of quarry and plant activities on local wildlife are claimed to be reduced to an absolute minimum and closely monitored.

“Omya has a strong commitment to responsible practices and stringent sustainability,” said Stefan Lander, Vice President Consumer Goods, Group Sales and Marketing at Omya.

“Wherever we operate, we take into account the sensitivities of local communities and environments.

“Conserving biodiversity is always part of our decision-making process, and the cornerstone of land restoration and water management policy.”

Lander adds: “Orgon is a perfect example of our long-standing principles, and we are pleased to have this modern facility in our corporate network.”
