Harrods will launch its first private members’ club in Shanghai, China, at the end of the year.
The Residence will expand the luxury department store's presence into China and tap into wealthy Chinese consumers as the country continues to open up post-Covid.
It will be located in the Cha House on the second floor, a centuries-old heritage building found in the heart of the city.
The luxury department store said only 250 members will be accepted to join the club, with additional members considered following peer nominations.
Fees start from 150,000 RMB (US$20,000) for an annual membership.
“The Residence is Harrods’ very first private members’ club and is being created to serve a curated community of discerning members,” said Michael Ward, Managing Director of Harrods.
“Membership is a unique proposition in Shanghai, offering not only world-class dining and spirits with a like-minded network but also unlocking exclusive Harrods international lifestyle and concierge services to create unparalleled experiences for every member.”
The space features a bar, lounge, private dining rooms and outdoor terraces, and a restaurant hosted by chef Gordon Ramsay will also open at The Residence.
Membership to the club will also come with automatic access to the Harrods Rewards scheme.
In 2022 the luxury London store expanded the scheme with the launch MyBeauty, aimed at its H Beauty customers.
The programme provides exclusive member-only offers and promotions on luxury beauty products, as well as access to events and services throughout the year.
The Qatar-owned company now has five dedicated beauty hall destinations.
Harrods was also named the most popular department store in the world last year, according to a study from findmycasino.com.
