Dabur India buys Turkey’s Hobi Kozmetik for $69m

FMCG company reports 19.5% growth in Q1 revenue


FMCG brand owner Dabur India has acquired one of Turkey’s largest personal care products companies for $69m. Dabur’s overseas subsidiary Dabur International Ltd bought a 100% stake in three Hobi Kozmetik Group-owned firms: Hobi Kozmetik, Zeki Plastik and Ra Pazarlama.

Hobi Kozmetik Group has a 35% share of Turkey’s hair gel category and markets a range of hair care and skin care products under the Hobby and New Era brands. Its products are sold in 35 countries including the Middle East and North Africa.

“The acquisition of Hobi Kozmetik is in line with Dabur’s strategy to aggressively expand its scale of operations and strengthen its presence in the FMCG space across the globe,” commented Dabur’s chairman Anand Burman. “This acquisition is an important step towards further consolidating and expanding our already substantial presence in the Middle East and North Africa region.”

In addition, Dabur announced solid financial results for the quarter ended 30 June. Consolidated revenue in the quarter amounted to Rs 924.38 crore, a 19.5% increase on the same period of 2009. Dabur’s oral care business grew 20.2%, while hair oils were up 16.5% and skin care grew 12.4%.
