Reed Sinopharm has postponed its February trade show PCHi, due to be held in Shanghai, amid escalating concerns around the outbreak of coronavirus.

The event organiser posted a statement in which it confirmed that the 2020 edition of PCHi has been postponed until further notice in order to protect the health and safety of exhibitors and visitors.

It stated: “We will closely monitor the development of the epidemic and keep close communication with Shanghai government.

“The new show date and further arrangements will be informed upon confirmation.

“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience incurred by this situation and appreciate your understanding and consistent support of PCHi.”

The action was taken in accordance with the notice issued by Shanghai municipal government on epidemic prevention and control.

Shanghai, one of China’s most populated cities, reported its first coronavirus-related death on Saturday 25 January.

Extending the public holiday, businesses in the city are not allowed to return to work until 10 February.

The wider death toll in China has risen to 81 with almost 3,000 confirmed cases, the BBC reports.
