Key market challenges addressed

Whether it’s new shades, textures or finishes, colour cosmetics has always been one of the categories most focused on the new and the next. Products drop on a daily basis and production cycles are accelerating, fuelling a market that is worth nearly $70bn worldwide.

Yet as concerns over waste and climate change have hit consumers with more urgency in 2019, the rumblings of a new consumer attitude has emerged that raises the question: are consumers applying the breaks to beauty?

Gabriella Beckwith, Research Analyst – Beauty and Fashion at Euromonitor International, tells Cosmetics Business: “One of the key challenges in colour cosmetics is that consumers in major markets such as the UK and US have been on somewhat of a ‘beauty diet’ over the last year.
