TRI-K Industries is pleased to announce that Mibelle Biochemistry has been selected to speak at the 2013 SCC Annual Scientific Seminar held in St. Louis, Missouri on June 6 & 7. The SCC Scientific Seminar is the leading conference focused on cosmetic science and formulation.

TRI-K Industries was appointed by Mibelle Biochemistry in 2007 as their exclusive partner for the United States. Headquartered in Switzerland, Mibelle Biochemistry designs and develops innovative, high-quality actives that are inspired by nature and realized by science.

Dr. Fred Zülli and Dr. Daniel Schmid will be speaking on behalf of Mibelle on June 6 in Session B and presenting “Diabetic Skin: Models and Clinical Studies to Develop Actives to Treat Glycated Skin.” Lifestyle changes and demographic developments will cause a significant increase in diabetes in the near future. The objective of Mibelle’s research was to identify active cosmetic ingredients that would prevent or counteract the negative effects of highly glycated human skin. Glycation is a naturally-occurring process in the body that leads to a loss of elasticity and premature aging. Tests were conducted to analyze the effects of glycation on the physiology of the cells, studying differences between normal-aged and diabetic-aged skin using two-photon microscopy, ELISA and immune histochemistry techniques. The in-vitro analysis revealed changes to the specific cytokine expression, while in-vivo tests showed a reduced metabolic activity. Understanding the differences between normal-aged and diabetic-aged skin can help in the creation of new actives to target specific needs for those who struggle with skin disorders caused by diabetes.
