Merck adds colour with red/copper/gold travel pigment
Merck has introduced a new colour travel pigment in the form of Xirona Volcanic Sparks. This is the first in the Xirona product family to be based on calcium aluminium borosilicate flakes coated with metal oxides, a combination that is said to give a special colour travel effect from red to copper to gold depending on the viewing angle. Viewed flat the colour is shiny gold, changing to a clear, fiery red as the viewing angle increases and the particle size (20-200um) produces a vibrant, fiery glitter effect.

The new pigment can be used in colour cosmetics and personal care products and is said to be easy to incorporate even at very low application concentrations. The substrate’s colour neutrality and high transparency are said to create very pure colours.
