Merck acquires Chinese pigments supplier
Merck KGaA has bought one of China’s leading suppliers of effect pigments
Multinational effect pigments supplier Merck KGaA has bought one of China’s leading suppliers of effect pigments, Suzhou Taizhu Technology Development Co Ltd. As part of the €28m transaction Merck now owns Taizhu’s production site in Taicang, 40km from Shanghai, as well as the company’s entire sales and marketing organisation in China and abroad.
Merck hopes that the acquisition will enable it to get a larger piece of the value effect pigments market. “The transaction is highly effective for Merck because Taizhu’s products complement our premium product portfolio with a range that mainly serves the growing value for money market segment,” commented the head of Merck’s performance & life science chemicals division, Klaus Bischoff.
In 2008, Taizhu reported total revenues of over €14m and is responsible for approximately 300 employees.
