Make-up sales down in France
Sales volume, however, is up with the average French woman buying 4.5 units of make-up per year
Make-up sales are now taking a downturn in France according to Kantar Worldpanel Beauty.
In the hygiene/beauty sector as a whole, sales have fallen 3.6%, with the average annual spend in 2012 dropping to €163 compared with €169 in 2011. Sales volume, however, is up with the average French woman buying 4.5 units of make-up per year, and nail varnish leading the way.
Of the key retailers contributing to the figures, three are mass – Leclerc, Carrefour and SuperU – while key brands sold include Yves Rocher, L’Oréal Paris, Rimmel and Kiko.
