French beauty brand L’Occitane has launched a Restoration Fund to support organisations responding to climate emergencies.
In its first pledge, the group has offered €400,000 to help finance projects dedicated to restoring damage ecosystems; €200,000 of this will be donated to tree planting and agroforestry schemes across Australia.
In the last 12 months, the Amazon rainforest, South America and areas of Australia have been hit by mass wildfires, burning millions of acres of land and habitats.
“We are truly shocked and saddened to see the devastation from the recent fires that have destroyed beautiful landscapes, native wildlife and communities in different parts of the world,” said Reinold Geiger L’Occitane’s CEO.
“As responsible leaders, we cannot just sit back and watch. We need to do our part to help rebuild a healthy ecosystem for the sake of generations to come.”
In 1976, the company’s founder Olivier Baussan established the L’Occitane Foundation, which last year supported projects across six continents, funding initiatives for eye care research, female leadership and biodiversity conservation.
“Solidarity is a L’Occitane cornerstone,” said Geiger.
“The Foundation is particularly dear to me, I feel happy and proud to be involved with a company that has had strong values right from the beginning and to make them my own.”
