Organised by SPC magazine and now in its 4th successful year, Beauty Focus 2010 will take place on 2 March at London’s Grange City Hotel.

‘The ethical advantage’ is the theme of the morning’s session and Organic Monitor’s Judi Beerling gets the ball rolling by examining green formulations and standards and assessing how they’re stacking up. Dr Straetmans’ Wilfried Petersen will then explain how we should go about sourcing for a sustainable future, while Chris Davis from the Fairtrade Foundation will explain the value of fairtrade in the cosmetics industry. Extending product greening to your packaging, Jonathan Ford of Pearlfisher will help you bring your packaging in line with your principles. And to conclude this session, Andreas Ellenberger of Weleda, Louise Green of Neal’s Yard and Andrew Dixon of Burt’s Bees will share their experiences of formulating ethically.

The focus switches to ‘What’s new in cosmetics’ in the afternoon. C&T industry consultant Imogen Matthews will share her wealth of knowledge on evolving trends in cosmetic markets. Then to innovative technologies and Anja Dahen of analyze & realize will look at nutricosmetics while aesthetic surgeon Dr Erich Schulte will focus on cosmeceuticals. Sometimes controversial but definitely exciting is the emerging world of nanotechnology, put under the spotlight here by Emma Meredith of the CTPA, followed by Nica Lewis of Mintel who heads for the oceans to examine marine beauty ingredients.

And wrapping up the day with something we all want and need to know about, consultant Bob Hefford will tell us how well, or not, we’re doing at beating this recession.
