In a bid to boost Japan’s economy, tourists to Japan will be able to buy more items tax-free from October 1. Visitors who make purchases worth more than ¥5,000 at participating tax-free shops can receive a refund, and the scheme will apply to purchases of cosmetics, health goods and medicine, confectionery, alcohol, and batteries. The change was made to attract more business from the increasing numbers of Chinese tourists shopping in Japan. However, economic signs are not good.
